“The Skills Bootcamp in Game Development with NextGen Skills Academy was life changing! I’m grateful for such an organised, informative and fun learning experience.”
Skills Bootcamps are fully funded for eligible learners. See each individual bootcamp page for location eligibility and funding details.
You don’t need to be a pro, but you’ll need some existing skills and experience to support your application. This could be through formal learning, self-taught, previous roles, or transferable skills. Eligibility criteria may vary depending on location and funding partner. See each bootcamp for details.
All the main tutor sessions, masterclasses, and employability sessions are delivered online. You'll join a dedicated Discord server to chat with your cohort, tutors, and NextGen.
We also host a couple of in-person events for each bootcamp that you're expected to attend. These normally involve a weekend of working together as a team on a project, we’ve found these to be a really positive way to meet your fellow students and build a supportive network.
This will vary for each bootcamp, but as a guide you are expected to spend between three to four hours per week attending the core tutor and coach led sessions. These sessions are live but recorded for playback on-demand as needed. You will also be expected to work independently for approx. three hours on that week’s task.
You will need access to an internet connected computer/laptop that can run the required software for your bootcamp (e.g. Blender, Unity, Unreal, etc.). The Skills Bootcamps can not be completed on just a tablet or a phone.
You will be sent links to a spec list as part of your onboarding process. If you don’t have access to a suitable machine, NextGen has a limited number of suitable laptops we can loan out for the duration of the bootcamp.
You’ll attend weekly group sessions with a dedicated tutor, receive tailored career guidance from our employability coach, get project feedback from industry, and have ongoing support from the NextGen team.
