Bring animated stories to life with a professional studio workflow
This 10-week Skills Bootcamp gives you the opportunity to develop studio-ready 3D animation skills through real-world projects, studio-informed workflows, and professional feedback — all designed to help you build confidence and get ready for a career in the animation industry.
You’ll work alongside your peers to learn the animation production pipeline, all while being guided by experienced tutors and supported by input from A Productions, an award-winning animation studio based in Bristol, known for JoJo and Gran Gran, Love Monster, and their work with Sesame Workshop.
You will:

Live Studio Project with A Productions and Terrific Television!
You will spend part of the Skills Bootcamp replicating shots from an episode of a brand-new animated TV show produced by A Productions for Terrific Television, closely shadowing the work of the studio team.
This incredible opportunity will give you a behind the scenes look into a professional animation studio’s workflow and turnarounds! Approved shots may be eligible for personal showreels after the show airs in 2026 (subject to release dates and NDA).
This live project will run for approximately 4 weeks of the bootcamp and use the NextGen RISE platform to replicate a remote studio environment. The rest of the bootcamp will focus on preparing for the project and developing personal work to showcase your skills.
What you'll learn
This bootcamp is designed to prepare you for real studio work, with a strong focus on animation fundamentals, professional pipelines, and employability skills.
Core Focus Areas:
- 3D animation – pose, weight, timing, acting, and facial performance
- Shot planning – working to a brief and timing sheet
- Animation workflow – blocking, splining, and polish
- Feedback cycles – how to take and apply studio notes
- Teamwork and pipelines – working in a simulated studio environment
- Showreel development – shots that demonstrate your strengths
You’ll complete a final animation project, develop portfolio-ready assets, and gain clarity on the types of roles that suit your skills and interests within the animation industry.
Who it's for
This bootcamp is for aspiring 3D animators looking to break into the animation industry. If you have intermediate 3D knowledge and want to further develop your technical skills, employability and studio-readiness, this is for you.
You must:
- Be aged 19+
- Live in (or intend to work in) the West of England Combined Authority area (Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol and South Gloucestershire), and North Somerset
- Have the right to work in the UK
To get the most out of this course you should have an intermediate understanding of 3D software such as Blender or Maya and a basic understanding of animation workflows. You will need to submit links to an online portfolio as part of your application.
You don’t need to be advanced as you’ll grow your skills throughout the bootcamp.

How long is the course and what is the time commitment?
The Skills Bootcamp runs for 10 weeks starting in October 2025. To get the most out of the learning you’ll need to commit approximately four to six hours a week for remote tutor-led lessons (mostly evenings). This includes three hours on 3D Animation with our tutor, plus employability sessions and masterclasses.
Then there will be approx. three hours a week of self-study/independent work. We also run a couple of in-person events that you are expected to attend, these take place over the weekend in a central accessible location (dates confirmed post-enrolment). -
Is there employability support?
Yes! You’ll work with a careers coach in one-to-one and group sessions, and benefit from job preparation support, portfolio reviews, mock interviews, and ongoing support from NextGen.

What are Skills Bootcamps and how are they funded?
Skills Bootcamps are free, flexible courses of up to 16 weeks, giving people the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills.
This Skills Bootcamps Programme is funded and managed by the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority, and delivered by NextGen Skills Academy (Next Gen Skills Ltd).
